What is ThermoWood?
ThermoWood is heat-treated wood, that is produced thanks to modern technologies, which process the wood using heat and steam at a temperature of 160-240 °C without the use of chemicals. For outdoor use, it is necessary to use wood with a minimum temperature of 212 °C. Thermo-treatment increases the stability of natural wood and its resistance to the adverse effects of the environment.
The disadvantage is that wood becomes brittle and the treatment worsens the mechanical properties of wood species.
Advantages:
- Durability
- Thermal properties – 20-25 % lower than untreated wood
- 100 % natural
- Humidity reduction by 40-50 %
- Resistance to insects
Disadvantages:
- Wood embrittlement
- Most wood species are not suitable for horizontal structures
